- An aspirin a day will work wonders; be sure to consult your doctor.
- Exercise - it can save your life.
- Don’t smoke
- Learn about your medications
- Learn about your disease so that you can start to control it, but don’t be afraid to ask questions.
Preventing CVD
- Get your blood pressure checked frequently.
- Choose and exercise activity you enjoy - it will be fun and you will be more likely to stick with it and not give up.
- Get your risk factors checked by your doctor every five years beginning at the age of 20.
- If you are 30 pounds overweight then you are at an increased health risk for this disease.
- If you have high triglycerides try decreasing the amount of sugars you consume.
- Instead of just getting you total cholesterol checked go even further and have your HDL’s (good cholesterol which should be above 45) and LDL’s (bad cholesterol which should be below 100) checked.
- Watch how stressed you get.
